Assignment Management

This is part 2 of our Silico assignment tutorial. See Part 1 to get started building your first assignment.

  1. Teaching assistants
  2. Evaluating student code
  3. Updating instructions and due dates

The cover page

Once an assignment has been posted for students, and they've begun to work on questions, ongoing management of the assignment is done on the assignment cover page.

Teaching assistants

Assignment authors - that's you - can access and run student student code, most likely for the purpose of evaluating work!

However, should you need help, you can tap Silico users as teaching assistants.

Assistants can run student code

Adding teaching assistants is quick and easy. Once they've signed up for a Silico account (including the free one), they can be added on the assignment cover page.

Each assistant you add can run student code for free. This makes it quick and easy to get your assistants up and running.

Evaluating student code

Assistants can check off a student's question as marked, so everyone can keep track of what's been done.

In the future we're planning to add features to make it easy to give feedback on student code, but for now intend to keep the process as simple as possible.

Updating the assignment

Parts of the assignment can be updated after students have started the assignment. The following can be changed for students while in progress:

Changing the due date can either close the assignment (if you set the due date in the past), or extend the time student's have before it automatically closes.

Updating starter code

Questions starter code cannot be updated once a student has started an assignment. This may be something that's revised in the future, but it's not obvious this is an important feature. Let us know!

You're ready

That's all it takes to get up and running with Silico assignments. We're always working to add and improve features, so we'd love to hear your feedback!
